| Sunshine Youth Group Activities Big Walk 2006 "Make of us the hero warriors we aspire to become. May we fight successfully the great battle of the future that is to be born, against the past that seeks to endure; so that the new things may manifest and we may be ready to receive them." - The Mother Reflections on the Big Walk of 11th Mar 2006 On 11th Mar 2006, an exciting event took place. It was the big walk. In the morning at 7.00am, we met everyone at the MacRitchie reservoir. The sun was shining brightly in the sky. We waited for some time for everyone to come and then we chose a nice cool spot to do our warm-up before starting our journey. After the warm-up we sat down to do meditation. I prayed to the Mother that everybody should be safe and enjoy the walk. Then we crossed a lake by a wooden path, and saw some nice trees there. Kiruthika akka gave us some information about the trees. I even climbed up one of them. After the wooden path, we walked through a forest, and I saw a live snake there. After the forest, we walked past a big golf course. The place outside the golf course was beautiful so we decided to take our first break there. We all settled down. I took out the sandwich that my mother prepared for me. When I was eating, I felt like something was biting me. Then I saw a large red ants’ house beside me. I quickly took my things and told everyone to finish their break quickly and continue to walk. After sometime we saw a tall tower. I climbed up the tower and the view from the top of the tower was so lovely - that was the point I truly came to know the beauty of nature. Then we walked and walked until Rifle Range road. Meenakshi’s father was telling me jokes until we reached the end of Rifle Range road. At the end of it, Sundari aunty made us some buttermilk and I enjoyed drinking it because it was delicious. From there we walked to Bukit Timah hill. We took the rocky path and it was fascinating. At last we reached the summit. Pranav, Vatsala and I were the first to touch the rock. Adrian was the second and Meenakshi’s father was the third. After that we ate our lunch. We discussed all that happened and then we went home. I felt excited, happy and fascinated to participate in the walk, I felt a bit tired at the end though. The walk was fun and a great experience to learn about nature and the creatures living there. - Vishnu |
