THE SUNSHINE EXPERIENCE - A REVIEW AND AN INVITATION

Two years ago, when Prabha Rao came to Singapore, she noticed that there was a very small representation of young people ion Sri Aurobindo Society, Singapore. Thus she started a group with the permission of the committee, with the conviction that Mother will show the path that will enable the fulfillment of Her work with children and young people. This group soon came to be known as SYG - The Sunshine Youth Group. Prabha started SYG with three simple goals.

Firstly, she hoped to introduce the young people to Sri Aurobindo and Mother by encouraging them to come to our center at least once a month. Secondly, she wished to provide an outlet by which young people can express their thoughts and feelings and share them with others. And finally, she hoped to find a way by which new children and young people in Singapore could be introduced to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

Looking back after two years, I see how Mother has acted on the formation and development of Sunshine youth group and fulfill the ideals that Prabha started out with. The activities that were planned and presented were such that they always went a step towards the fulfillment SYG’s goals.

The main activity of SYG is the monthly programme. On the last Sunday of every month, various activities are being conducted, keeping the young people in mind. Be it children presenting a play or a concert or a panel discussion by the young people on integral yoga, several young people come to our center to participate and benefit from these programs.

Of course, besides music, drama and intellectual debates, which are part of the Sunday programs, SYG also encourages members and all other children who are interested to write an article for the newsletter of our society, thus providing an avenue for them to express and share their thoughts in writing.

The annual SYG Fellowship camp is just what it is called - a fellowship camp. It is an opportunity for new children and young people to stay with SYG members for a few days and find our, though various activities, about Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. After the camp, the children who have attended the camp are always welcome to join Sunshine Youth Group and contribute in all our activities.

Two years have passed and already several milestones have been set in the history of Sunshine. And on this occasion, SYG wishes to thank all the people who have offered support, ideas and inspiration to the society.

Yet, no matter who offers support and organizes our programs, we must not forget one thing.

It is Mother who is the backbone of SYG, it is Mother who has been with SYG every step of the way, and it is She who brings children from all over Singapore and the world to fulfill Her work.

And today, on the occasion of the second birth anniversary of SYG, I invite all of you to join us for our special program "Victory to our Sweet Mother", a program to express our gratitude to Mother for allowing SYG to be an instrument in Her work and a prayer that we may continue to be Her instrument and work towards Her Victory.
